Sony India has launched its new A-mount interchangeable lens camera, the a99 II. The new camera features Sony’s latest technologies including a new Hybrid Phase Detection AF system with exclusive Sony A-mount features such as Translucent Mirror Technology (TMT). The Sony a99 II is priced at Rs. 2,49,990. It will be available in select Sony Center, Alpha flagship stores and major electronic and digital imaging stores across India.
The Sony a99 II DSLR camera sports a full-frame 42.4MP Exmor R back-illuminated CMOS sensor. It is supported by a BIONZ X image processor with front-end LSI. The new camera comes with a huge light sensitivity range, up to ISO 102400. The Alpha a99 II uses a Hybrid Phase Detection AF System, which combines a 79-point dedicated AF sensor with a 399-point on-chip focus system. Also, the redeveloped shutter allows continuous shooting up to 12 fps, with full AF and AE capabilities.
The new camera also comes with a 5-axis SteadyShot INSIDE stabilization system, which can compensate for about 4.5 stops of shutter speed for sharper images. The ergonomically designed camera can record UHD 4K videos. Additionally, a new S&Q Motion setting allows users to capture Full HD videos at multiple frame rates ranging from 1-120 fps.
The Sony a99 II features a 0.5-inch 2.36m-dot XGA OLED Tru-Finder EVF and a 3.0-inch 1,228.8k-dot rear LCD monitor, which can tilt 134 degrees upward, 180 degrees downwards and rotate 270 degrees in a variety of positions. Other camera features include built-in Wi-Fi with NFC, Bluetooth, Face Detection,Enhanced Eye AF, Flexible Spot function, and Pre-flash TTL control. It also offers an output 14-bit raw files.
The new DSLR supports custom Color Profiles and S-Log3 Gamma. The S-Gamut3.Cine/S-Log-3 and S-Gamut3/S-Log3 profiles offer up to a 1300 per cent wider dynamic range for smoother tonal and color gradations, along with enhanced sensitivity and clarity in shadows and mid-tones. These profiles are highly compatible with professional workflow and versatile post-production grading and color control. The S-Log3 gamma setting also offers a 14-stop wide dynamic range for greater control over the highlights and shadows, while the S-Gamut3.Cine profile mimics the qualities of scanned negative film with a wide gamut comparable to the DCI-P3 color space. Additionally, the S-Log2 settings are also available.
Adjustable Picture Profile parameters include Black level, Gamma (Movie, Still, Cine1-4, ITU709, ITU709 [800%], S-Log2, S-Log3), Black Gamma, Knee, Color Mode (Movie, Still, Cinema, Pro, ITU709 Matrix, White & Black, S-Gamut, S-Gamut3.Cine, S-Gamut3), Saturation, Color Phase, Color Depth, Detail, Copy, and Reset.
