The latest news from research Firm Gartner reveals that Nokia, the world’s top selling phone brand has now been overtaken by Samsung.
Samsung with 86.6 million unit sales has scored the first spot due to its 25.9% increase from 2011. In a turn of events, Samsung has also regained its #1 position from Apple by making it up to 38 million Smartphone sales globally.
Samsung, along with its maximum user interest has already made 40% of the Android platform based Smartphones sales in the first quarter.
The Gartner reports also reveal that Nokia and LG both have lost market share and stand at 5.6% and 3.6% respectively. For India, Samsung hold the spot for #1 Smartphone brand whilst Nokia remains the #1 for total phone sales.
According to Gartner, RIM, Motorola and HTC also joined the list for lost market share with decrease from 3% to 2.4% market share, 2.1% to 2% market share and 2.2% to 1.8% market share respectively.
Nokia, in the first quarter has suffered a 22.7% decrease with just 83.2 million sales. At first, both Android and iOS grew at the cost of Symbian OS, but presently with the Android having 56.1% market, Symbian OS has suffered a sudden fall from 27.7% to just 8.6% of the market.
The Samsung’s proprietary OS has gained with the sales making it up to a 2.7% market from the 1.9% in 2011. Even the Windows makers have lost their shares from last year’s 2.65 to just 1.9% shares this year, mainly due to its main partner Nokia losing out on its market.
