New version of Skype for windows 8 launching this Friday
This Friday is a big day for Microsoft, as the company is launching a major update for its illustrious operating system, Windows 8. Along with that, Microsoft is also likely to emerge with a new version of Skype, which is a well known and widely employed VoIP provider, which even includes, for personal purpose and also at work environment.
Skype today has reported that, its new version app is readily available for users and will be standing alongside during the Windows 8 launches on Friday. This new application offers the familiar features that users will obviously look ahead to, which includes, instant messaging and audio and video chatting. Microsoft’s blog spot has notified that, the new Skype app has a beautiful full-screen interface that combines messaging, group chat and video calls all into a single screen in the Windows 8-style interface. Here, Skype runs on the background of the system, in order that it will be ready to answer incoming calls.
According to reports, the new version of Skype will be made available in the Windows Store on the same day of the Windows 8 launch. Many PC manufacturers have publicized that their new desktops, laptops and tablet computers will be equipped with this new application. The list also includes, Lenovo Group Ltd., Hewlett-Packard Co., Samsung Electronics Co. and Dell Inc.
After installing Skype and signing in with a Microsoft account, all the contacts of the user will be added to the People app. From People, the user can make VoIP, landline, or mobile calls using Skype credits, as well as place video calls and send direct messages. “Your conversations are more accessible to you than ever,” Gillett wrote, “and you can switch fluidly from chat to video or audio calls.”
The new version of Skype will give a tough competition for Apples’ FaceTime as Skype is equipped with many user-friendly features. For instance, Skype combines voice-only and instant messaging, whereas the Apple platforms require separate apps for these services.
Skype for Windows Phone is expected to be released in the spring.
