At MWC 2016, Samsung has announced the launch its flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S7. The much-awaited smartphone comes in two variants: the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge. It will be available in select regions, starting from March 11 [pre-orders start from Tuesday]. In some regions, customers who pre-order will also get a free Gear VR headset bundled along with six games.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 sports a 5.1-inch QHD Super AMOLED display, while the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge sports a 5.5-inch QHD Super AMOLED display. Both smartphones come with an Always-On display, similar to LG G5 along with IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The smartphones are powered by an Exynos 8890 octa-core [2.3GHz quad-core + 1.6GHz quad-core] or Qualcomm Snadragon 820 quad-core [2.15GHz dual-core + 1.6GHz dual-core] processor, depending on the regions. Both variants are supported by 4GB RAM. The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge come in two storage variants: 32GB and 64GB, which can be expanded up to 200GB via microSD card. However, in some regions they come with the hybrid dual SIM feature. Both run Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.
Both Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge sport a 12-megapixel ‘Dual Pixel’ rear camera with an f/1.7 aperture and smart OIS feature. There is also a 5-megapixel front camera with f/1.7 aperture onboard. Connectivity options include 4G LTE with Category 9, which offers 450Mbps download speeds, and 50Mbps uplink. Both smartphones support NFC and MST payment technologies. While the Galaxy S7 is backed by a 3000mAh battery, the Galaxy S7 Edge is backed by a 3600mAh battery. Both come with support for fast charging both on wired and wireless]. Other features include a fingerprint sensor.
The company also announced the Gear 360, which is a standalone spherical camera that can capture a 360-degree view videos. The recorded video can be played on the Gear VR headset or through the Gear 360 app. It weighs about 153g and features two lenses with f/2.0 aperture. The lenses allow you to take images in up to 30-megapixel and videos in nearly 3860 x 1920 resolution. It supports up to 128GB internal storage via a micro SD card and is backed by a 1350mAh battery [can shoot up to two hours of video]. The Samsung Gear 360 will be launched in second quarter of 2016.
