Alongside new smartphones [Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 550], Microsoft also announced the new Surface Pro 4. The company also unveiled its first laptop, the Surface Book. Both devices will come with the new Surface Pen. The Surface Pro 4 and Microsoft Surface Book has been priced at $899 and $1,499 respectively. Both devices will be available from October 26 [pre-orders begin Wednesday].
The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 sports a 12.3-inch (2736×1824 pixel) PixelTouch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection [only 0.4mm thick]. It comes with a new stylus called, the Surface Pen, which comes with an eraser and can detect 1,024 points of pressure. With just a click of the tip of the pen, the Surface Pro 4 opens Microsoft OneNote. The Pen also comes with Cortana integration. There is also a new Type Cover as well, which comes with more spacious keys on the keyboard and a glass trackpad.
The Surface Pro 4 comes with an option Intel’s 6th-generation Core processors, from Core M3, to Core i5 and Core i7, which are powered by Intel HD Graphics 515, Intel HD Graphics 520, and Intel Iris Graphics respectively. It comes with up to 16GB RAM (starts at 4GB) and up to 1TB SSD storage (starts at 128GB). It features an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The device comes with four USB 3.0 ports, an Ethernet port, and a fingerprint scanne along with two 4K Mini DisplayPorts. The company claims that the Surface Pro 4 will offer up to 9 hours of battery life.
The Microsoft Surface Book features a magnesium body. It measures 312.3 x 232.1 x 13.0 – 22.8mm in size and weighs 1.52kg including the keyboard, which can also be detached from the Dynamic Fulcrum Hinge. The keyboard dock contains the GPU, and two USB 3.0 ports. The trackpad has five-finger multi-touch support, while the display has 10-finger multi-touch support. The company’s first laptop sports a 13.5-inch PixelSense display with resolution of 3000 x 2000 pixels and a pixel density of 267ppi. It comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection and back-lit keys.
The laptop is powered by a choice of sixth-generation Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processors along with Intel HD Graphics 520 on the Core i5 variant.The users can also choose a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GPU with GDDR5 video memory. The laptop comes with an option of 8GB or 16GB RAM. The Surface Book offers to last for 12 hours on a single charge. Sensors include ambient light, accelerometer, gyroscope, and a magnetometer. It features two USB 3.0 ports, a full-size SD card reader and a Mini DisplayPort. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, and Bluetooth 4.0.
