Alongside the Lumia 950, 950 XL and Surface Pro 4, Book, Microsoft also announced the new Lumia 550 at a press event in New York City. The new Microsoft Lumia has been priced at $139 (approx. Rs 9,000) and will be available from December. There is no word about the pricing and availability on the Indian market as yet. The budget smartphone sports a 5-inch display and is expected to replace the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL as Microsoft’s budget phone in certain markets.
The Microsoft Lumia 550 sports a 5-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels along with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The new smartphone is powered by a 1GHz quad-core Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoC along with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal memory, which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot. The smartphone features a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front facing camera for selfies and video calling. Connectivity features include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. smartphone is backed by a 1,905 mAh battery.
Microsoft also unveiled it’s newest wearable is called Microsoft Band. The new device sports a sleeker look and comes with a curved, touch-sensitive OLED display and Gorilla Glass 3. It also come with Cortana integration. The new Band also has a barometer, to measure elevation for hiking and stair-climbing. It also records metrics like VO2 max and also includes automatic shot detection for golf. Other features include GPS, heart rate, calorie and sleep tracking, guided workouts and smart notifications. The new Band works with iOS, Android apart from Microsoft Windows Phone devices. It also offers support for apps like Uber, RunKeeper, Starbucks, Subway and Twitter. With so many sensors and apps integration, the Band might be the most feature-filled activity-tracking wristband out there. The new Microsoft Band has been priced at $249 [$50 more than the last year’s Band] with pre-orders starting today.
