The Fujifilm’s XF100-400 lens has finally started shipping. Fujifilm had officially announced its Fujinon XF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lens, last month. The new lens was launched at a price of USD $1,899.95 and CAD $2,149.99.
The new telephoto lens offers exceptionally sharp images with a 152mm-609mm equivalent [F6.8-8.4 equivalent] in 35mm format, when mounted on an X-series body. The high-performance lens has an optical construction, consisting of 21 elements in 14 groups, nine rounded aperture blades, and includes five ED lenses [5 extra-low dispersion elements]. There is also one Super ED lens [super extra low dispersion elements] to help reduce chromatic aberration that often occurs in telephoto lenses.
The Fujinon XF 100-400mm features a 5-stop image stabilization system and twin linear motors for fast focusing performance. The weather-sealed lens is water and dust resistant [with 13 water and dust resistant seals at 12 points]. It can operate in temperatures as low as 14°F. Also present is a fluorine coating, applied to the front lens element to repel water and dirt. Other features include 1/3 EV (15 steps), lens hoods [features a sliding window for accessing a polarizing filter and locking mechanism]. It is compatible with Fujifilm’s XF1.4X TC WR tele-converter and offers users a focal length of 140-560mm F6.3-8 or 213-853mm in 35mm equivalent. The lens is also compatible with optional lens plate (MLP-75XF) and optional ARCA SWISS tripods.
