Which Devices Will Get Google’s Latest Mobile Operating System First? This is the hundred-dollar question that lingers in the minds of all android users world over. Ever since the mighty Google Inc. has announced the advent of its latest mobile operating system, Android 5.0 aka Android Lollipop. Rest assured, many Android run devices would get the update eventually. However, the question is who will get it first.
Many Android device makers are assuring their customers that their devices will get the latest version of Google’s mobile platform. Some other makers are tight lipped, preferring to keep their fingers crossed until things are clear.
Google – Nexus
Earlier devices by Google under its Nexus brand will receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update at about the same time as the coming Nexus 6 SmartPhone and Nexus 9 tablet. Both are slated for release in market this November. Initially, Google will be sending the Android 5.0 update for its Nexus 7 Wi-Fi and Nexus 10 tablets in early November. Nexus 4, Nexus 5 SmartPhones and Nexus 7 LTE tablet will get the update sometime later in the month. According to Google, it may take a few weeks to send the update for Google Play Edition devices.
Motorola is enjoying a good relationship with Google. It helped the giant in designing its new Nexus 6 SmartPhone. The design is based on the Moto X 2014. It is likely that other Motorola devices will update to Android 5.0 Lollipop quickly.
The Company confirms that many of its devices will get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. The devices include the Moto X (2013 and 2014 models), the Moto G (2013 and 2014 models), the Moto G LTE and the Moto E. Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini will join the bandwagon too. However, the company hasn’t given any time frame for the update. It assures that whatever information is available that will be shared on its software upgrades page.

HTC is among the first companies that have announced early updates. Way back in June, the company stated that it would update several devices, which are under its HTC One banner after the launch of Android 5.0 Lollipop. The is committed to a specific deadline, aiming to have its HTC One (M7) and (M8) models running Android 5.0 in under three months of the release. The company has designed the new Nexus 9 tablet for Google. Just as Motorola got its KitKat update when it partnered Google, HTC may get Lollipop earlier.

The Japanese device maker has announced that Android 5.0 will be available to all Xperia Z devices. It means that not only flagships but also all the devices under Xperia Z banner will be running on the latest Android. The range includes the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. The company is, however, not specific on any time frame.
According to trustworthy sources, the first to get update will be the Google Play edition Z Ultra. Sony says it will begin updating devices in the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 lines in early 2015. Update information will be available on the Sony Mobile Blog and on its Twitter handle as soon as it is ready.

Though Samsung has so far not confirmed any Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for its devices, at least one device, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play edition is expected to be among the first devices to receive Android 5.0. It is reported that some enthusiasts saw a leaked video of Galaxy S5 handset running a test version of Android 5.0 Lollipop (It was known as Android L then). Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface is updated in accordance with the Material Design interface of Android L. It is indicative that Samsung has been developing its iteration of the Android 5.0 software for some time. However, Samsung hasn’t given out any official information about updates. A leaked preview of Galaxy S5 estimates that the device would roll out in December.
Just like Samsung, LG hasn’t confirmed any Android 5.0 Lollipop updates. Nevertheless, according to experts at least one device from LG is sure to get the new software. The LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play edition should be getting Android 5.0. Other devices like the LG G3, LG G2 and LG G2 Pro are also expected to receive the update. According to a Facebook post LG G3 will get Lollipop this year. LG G2 would follow the course shortly afterwards.

Asus has a detailed update timetable for its ZenFone series and a couple of PadFone devices. Its schedule as per its official forum is given below. The ZenFone and PadFone S updates are expected in April 2015. PadFone Infinity will get the update a couple of months later.

The Karbonn Sparkle V, Micromax Canvas A1, and Spice Dream Uno will receive Android Lollipop soon after the full launch of the new version.

Nvidia confirms that its Nvidia Shield Tablet will receive an update to Lollipop in November. This is according to a video post of the company’s official Youtube channel.
