The Cool 1 Dual is beautiful, hefty and rugged looking smartphone. Despite a 5.5-inch display, it fits nicely into your pocket. However, it has a thickness of 8.2mm, thanks to its 4000mAh battery. The metal-build device is quite heavy at around 170g.

While the new smartphone comes with a Dual-SIM set up, it doesn’t carry a micro SD card slot. It only comes in a 32GB internal storage variant. There is an 8MP camera placed on the front. However, the USP of the device is the 13MP Dual-Camera setup on the back, which is supported by a LED flash.

There is also the traditional Coolpad fingerprint sensor placed below the rear cameras. Overall, the Cool 1 Dual looks aesthetically pleasant.

Display

The 5.5-inch display comes with full-HD resolution. The crisp and bright screen offer great viewing angles.

The screen covers a significant color gamut. However, it attracts lot of fingerprints.

Performance and OS

Since, the Coolpad has been acquired by LeEco, the new handset comes with EUI version 5.8, based on Android 6.0. The new UI is quite smooth and user friendly. The Cool 1 comes pre-loaded with Google apps, in-house system tools and few third-party apps such as Amazon.

The UI is quite snappy and the phone does not lag at all, thanks to 1.8GHz Mediate chip-set and up to 4GB RAM. Out of 32GB internal storage, you will get roughly 30GB. As far as RAM is concerned, you get around 2.5GB out if 4GB, which amounts to quite decent RAM management.

On benchmark scores, the Cool 1 scores quite well. While it scores 73000 in AnTuTu, the new smartphone was right on top in Vellamo Metal/Core scores [more than S6]. In GeekBench 4 too, it got commendable scores. During gaming tests, the Cool 1 could handle most games without breaking a sweat. Clearly, one of the most powerful performance at this price point.

Camera

Coolpad has improved a lot on its front camera, including its UI. The bright camera captures good amount of details and texture. The front camera on Cool 1 also offers HDR mode along with beauty mode and other standard features.

The rear camera is the USP of this smartphone. It comes with some standard features such as the Pro mode, Beauty mode, Night mode, etc. The fast Dual camera can capture full HD videos.

The company had added a new SLR mode [thanks to Dual-lens setup], which allows you to capture depth of field similar to DSLRs. One lens acts as a depth sensor, which allows you to capture nice bokeh.

Despite, offering a Dual-camera setup at this price-point, the Cool 1 does not compromise on quality. While not quite as good as DSLR, it tries to emulate the effect to a large extent. The Beauty mode works really well on both front and rear end. Overall, the Cool 1 Dual offers one of the best cameras at its price point.

Audio

While the speaker output is loud enough, the bass is quite flat. The surround sound allows multiple people to watch videos.

Battery

The new smartphone offers around 10 hours of battery life [screen-on time]. It can easily last you more than a day.

Verdict

The new Coolpad Cool 1 Dual comes with multiple positive features such as 4000mAh battery, great camera and UI. The all-metal body feels rugged and premium in hand. However, the absence of micro SD card slot and low-bass audio might bother you. Still, the budget-pricing [INR 13,990] of the Cool 1 places it far ahead of the competition.
