At CES 2016, Panasonic has announced two new compact digital cameras, the Lumiz DMC-ZS100 and Lumix DMC-ZS60, along with a tele zoom lens, and five new camcorders. The two digital still cameras come with an option to change focus after the image has been taken, using similar computational imaging technology based on multiple image capture. Panasonic is calling it ‘Post-Focus’. The technology has been seen earlier in several smartphones and a Lytro cameras.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100 is a compact digital pocket camera, which features a 1-inch MOS sensor, and is the first Panasonic model to feature ‘Post-Focus’. The camera captures multiple images with optimal focus for 49 individual areas within each frame. This allows you to manually select which area you want to focus on, after the fact. Users will be able to generate multiple versions of the same image with different areas in focus too. The ZS100 features a 25-250mm [35mm equivalent] f/2.8-5.9 Leica zoom lens and 5-axis hybrid optical image stabilization [OIS]. The camera offers an ISO range of 80-25,600. It can record 4K videos along with 8MP still images from video footage shot with the camera. Other key features include PASM Exposure Control, Over 40 Creative filters and scene modes, AVCHD/MP4 video capture and RAW, JPEG still image capture. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi and NFC. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100 also features a 3-inch Touch Monitor with 1040k dot resolution and will be available in Silver and black colour options at a price of $699.99.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS60 features a 30x zoom lens along with an 18MP MOS sensor [ 1/2.3″] and a 24-720mm [35mm equivalent] f/3.3-6.4optical zoom range. It is capable of 4k still/video capture along with an 8-MP still from 4K video. It also offers the ‘Post-Focus’ feature. The camera comes with a shutter speed of 1/16,000 sec. Other key features include 5 AXIS HYBRID Optical Image Stabilization, Contrast Auto Focus with DFD Technology, 10fps burst photo mode [full resolution – 5fps with AF] and Face/eye tracking AF. Connectivity options include full wireless control and photography via the Panasonic Image App. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS60 also features a 0.2-inch 1,166k-dot Electronic View Finder and will be available in silver and black colour options at a price of $449.99.
