Beware now Webcam can create a security threat for laptop users
Webcams can now be security threat for laptop users as most of the laptops are equipped with in built Webcams
As we have seen almost all the laptops nowadays are equipped with a webcam, this standard feature can create a real security threat. Now it has been made possible to buy malicious software that turns a web cam on or off or even disable the light of the camera which allows us to know if the cam is on or off.
According to Justin Vellese of FBI most of these software packages are very easy to use and the users need not have to be a computer programmer. As few of the laptops available hare capable of wireless communication built in with them, so being portable they are easy to be placed in private places which can record or transmit the private matters to a far away user without the knowledge of the owner.
So now it is very important to make it sure to update your security to latest version as mentioned by CNET’s Dan Ackerman. He also added that the users should be sure that the firewall is turned on at all times and these devices are well equipped with Anti-Virus software along with Anti-malware software.
Vellese has also added that if a webcam user is not using the camera he/she need to either disable it by simply putting a Post it over it or may even block the camera view with something available. And if the user is using a cam via USB then he should disconnect it while not in use.
FBI has already considered this as crime cyber terrorism and has also mentioned that they are mostly being used to target young common Woman. Just by becoming a little concerned about your web cam you can protect yourself from some other persons spying on you. So next time you use your webcam don’t forget to disable it.
