Whether you keep them as a second body, or use between waiting for the next htc or Samsung biggie – these will be the perfect companion you wouldn’t hate to lose.

So here is the list of top Android phones in India below Rs 5000. Well, you don’t have much choice really under 5000. In fact you would not have had any choices had MTS not launched the MTag 3.1 and MTS Livewire. Till date, these are the only two Android phones we know that come under 5000.

MTS MTag 3.1 (Rs. 4900)

It is also known as 3-1 or Huawei C8511. It sports a 240 x 320 Pixels, 2.8” screen and runs Froyo (Android 2.2). A touch-only phone, it has a bar form factor with a slightly curved bottom. There are 3.2 MP cam, Bluetooth v2.1 with EDR, Stereo FM Radio, MP3 Player and surprise surprise – a USB 2.0 port! Although we havenot seen, it could be actually a mini USB port, but a full-size can’t be denied. All-in-all a decent package for sub-5k.

Note that it is a CDMA only phone, supporting EVDO.

MTS Livewire (Rs. 4500)

This one has a 240 x 320 Pixels, 2.8” screen, similar to that of the MTag but not so smart-looking as the MTag. There is a 3.0 MP, 2048 x 1536 Pixels camera, 128 MB RAM + 256 MB ROM inbuilt memory, and Froyo with 198 x 122 x 13.2 mm dimension. Also known as ZTE N600, this one is also a CDMA only phone and supports EVDO.

UPDATE: We found the ALCATEL OT-890 GSM phone priced at exactly 5000 on eBay.in, so we are including it here.

If you are looking for a GSM phone under Rs. 5000, you have one now. The ALCATEL OT-890 comes with Eclair or Android 2.1. On the hardware front, this guy sports the largest screen in this price-range – a 3.2″ one! Equipped with Edge, Wi-Fi and GPS – this phone also supports orientation changes. The Android market should give you ample apps options.

There is a 420 MHZ QUALCOMM MTK6516 CPU running inside, assisted by 256MB ROM and a150MB available internal storage. You can store the images captured with the 2MP camera on the up to 32GB external card.
